I graduated cum laude at a university of respectability. I have graduated with honors in high school. I was not a bad student, and many of us were not. We fell on hard times, and had trouble finding employment in the fields we trained for. For me, being autistic inhibited much of the jobs I could obtain to repay my student loans (most unrelated to the field I studied). Why should we pay extra for federal student loans backed by the government? The government should bear the cost of the loans and charge no interest. The principal should be what is paid on because, if hard times occur, we should not be punished for it. With the default rate on student loans so high, it is time to make a change.
